Earth Safety Systems

I don’t consider myself an environmental activist. I don’t even think that Global Warming will result in our extinction anytime soon. I do think though, that we are having a measurable impact on the environment. The stranger the weather gets, the more apparent that something has at least changed in the last 20 years.

Part of the reason I don’t think it will ever result in our extinction correlates to the fact that I don’t think we will ever run out of food on earth. It’s been projected many times that there would be massive food shortages on this planet as we continue to grow. Each and every time, we find ways to do more with less, by increasing yields or making use of land that was unfertile before. That makes it impossible for these projections to work out correctly.

No matter how you want to look at what we are doing to the earth, it’s obvious though that the planet has ways to protect itself. As we cause certain aspects of the earth to get thrown out of whack, the earth seems to respond in turn with actions that counteract the damage we do. Things like Hurricanes for example. I figure with all this global warming, we could eventually trip another ice age or something like that…

So I really don’t know where I was going with this blog post, but it’s just interesting to think how well built this place has to be for everything to continue to function continuously. If only we could build a computer that was that self correcting.
