Blogging To The Money Part 2 – Audience

I always remember Audience being the most difficult part of writing a college paper.

For example, sometimes you would be writing a paper, and your target audience would be the Professor. In that situation, you could assume that the person knew everything there was to know about the subject, and either spend time glossing over some of the basics, OR use their existing knowledge (like what they taught in class) to come to new conclusions of your own. However, if you were writing a paper with an audience of someone not knowledgeable about the subject (or if they were grading as someone like that), you would have to include all sorts of mundane details (this always seemed to be the case in my history and english papers).

I stongly believe that audience plays a key role in who actually will continue to read the blog. For example, Rinsefirst does such a poor job paying attention to audience, that for the most part the only people who read it consistently are my close friends (and even they sometimes don’t ;-)). On the other hand Rinsefirst also gets a lot of random traffic on certain topics (but they don’t stay long)… Which, is also a testament to Rinsefirst’s random nature.

That said, I firmly believe that “blogging to the money” means focus. A very rigid focus. I also believe that it must have a fairly wide audience appeal. The easiest way to do this is to have a very firm theme to work around (like my Christmas theme of January 2008). That said, I already mentioned in my last post that I would be doing something involving computers… But I think I’m going to be a little more focused than that… “Common Computer Solutions”.

The audience also has to need something… Why? Because if your looking to make money, it won’t be the people who have the answers who want to pay to get them again… Therefore, they have to need something.

Other than that… I can’t think of anything else to say about audience… So to summerize, here’s what we know about the blog so far:

  • It’s going to be a FOCUSED/Themed computer blog (thing I know)
  • It’s going to have wide audience appeal through use of “common” computer solutions (so things every computer user may or may not ask me)
  • The blog will be daily (so daily computer solutions)
  • We still need a title…

Tomorrows task… Get a title squared away!
