Halloween Festivities

I’m learning vary quickly how fast things change because you get married. I’m a firm believer that this is the transition point in life where old traditions start fading away, and new ones start taking their place. If you want to hold an old tradition, you gotta work harder to keep it, and if you want to start a new one, you better be ready for a little fall out.

In any case, Halloween sounds like it’s changing at least a little bit this year, and who knows if it will stay that way or not next year.

Normally, every year at Halloween, my family would go over to the Hunt’s house for a halloween dinner. It started back when I was probably 3, and my parents needed a place to take us trick-or-treating. We lived out in the country after all, so coming “into the city” to trick or treat with my cousin’s just made sense.

I believe we did that every year with 1 year somewhere around 10th grade that worked out that I stayed home and played Ultima Online (something about a big in game party where I was a bartender… I wonder if I was blogging then…). In any case, in recent years, it’s taken the form of a nice halloween dinner, where we sit around and make classic jokes about Harry Potter and his demise (we all love Harry, but it’s just so easy). Either that, or we make fun of my mom… whichever is easier.

Well this year, much like that year around 10th grade, my cousins have decided to leave for Orlando (I don’t blame them with the snow we had yesterday). That said, they won’t be hosting dinner unless we head down to Orlando to join them (hey, I wouldn’t mind).

So, here we are at a decisions as to what to do.

Seeing as I don’t like answering the door for strangely dressed children, I figured the best solution was to find people who do. So we decided to do dinner here… I don’t really know what that means, but hopefully it means my parents and Amber will handle all the scary children, and I can sit peacefully playing Guitar Hero World Tour, Tetris Party, or World of Warcraft (whichever seems like the best waste of time that evening).

As you can tell, I don’t very much enjoy Halloween. In fact, I all I really enjoy about it now is the candy, the friends and family i often get to see, and all the in game events that happen to be going on.

I should come trick or treat at your house as one of those scary children…

Finally…someone else who hates handing out candy to kids. I'm not a grinch, I just don't like opening the door every few minutes and having to act surprised at their costumes. Ugh.
