A Long Winter’s Nap

So I managed to wake myself up at 5:10am this morning and instead of going back to bed (which I will still do here shortly), I went on a quest to find some software. Some of you may have fond memories of this game at Recess with me. It would be known only as: “The Secret Island of Dr. Quandary”. Now of course, this game is old school. The version I found doesn’t look like it includes the sound or fancy graphics, which is kind of annoying. But it is playable. Very playable.
Upon realizing that there might be a better version out there, I went on a hunt to find MECC, the famous educational software company that brought you Number Munchers and Oregon Trail. Briefly there after, I remember thinking that I hadn’t seen a software title published under there name since Oregon Trail 2. Then the trouble began. I found information that said MECC went public under ticker symbol MEKK in 1991. So I looked up the ticker symbol… Nothing. I found a page that said Mecc’s homepage was Mecc.com… Nothing. All the sites that sell Mecc Software end up giving me nothing. Something about the Mecc name is telling me it got bought out by someone… I just don’t know who.
My guess would be whatever company owns Mavis. They would seem to be the leading competitor to MECC. What are they called? The learning company? Maybe I should do some research on them when I wake back up. Until then, I will keep you informed.
Oh and yes, I did find a copy of the game… Now’s your chance to beat it!
