Learning is a Wow

Note: this first part of my post is actually coming from a post I started earlier today, but failed to finish. I updated it to be part of the times.

Wow. For the first time in a long time, I am insanely enjoying learning. I just can’t seem to get enough. The more I learn, the more I want to use, the more I want to learn. I don’t think I’ve felt this excited about code since 8th grade. Back then, everyday was about learning.

I remember saying things like "Hey, check out these frames" and "Wow, it’s amazing what javascript can do. Do you think we could make a graphical game out of it?". Of course Sim and I did, and a very good one as well (Mario Battle and The Traveler). I remember Alex wondering if Anglefire had php. Back then, php was just something cool to us, not something we knew the power of.

But now, we know the real power of PHP, but honestly, I’ve used it to much at this point. I understand the logic of it, I understand it’s structure. There isn’t anything I feel I couldn’t write in PHP. It’s not as new and exciting for me. What is new and exciting all of a sudden is CSS, XHTML, XML, design, MYSQL, MSSQL, and hosting.

Thanks to Mezzoblue and some constant pushes from Alex, I feel I’m starting to take in all my design notes. Let’s just look around. JJ’s Domain was cool. It made great leaps and bounds with what php could do for me in my graphs, and various sections. The design was cross browser, but in tables. Then the site moved to CSS and XHTML, but stayed with a fairly simple design. Then the site became RinseFirst and got a whole new, some would say best yet, design. And now, as of like 20 minutes ago, it looks EXACTLY the same in IE 6, IE 5.5, and Moz. I can only assume that means it looks the same in about half a dozen other browsers as well.

This is all thanks to all the millions of articles I’ve read from Mezzoblue in the last two or three days. I made use of my first Tantek implementation. I made use of a dozen other things. The floats work. The strategy works. Just two more things I plan to put into the design to make it as compatible as I believe it ever will be, or maybe not…

But let’s get off the topic of design for a moment.

Tomorrow I’ll be at MSA trying to finish off a network, nothing new and exciting for me there, but Colleen will probably find it so. We have a good amount of work tomorrow, so we’ll probably get started early.

I spent the afternoon getting my car springized. It was such a nice day. I got my oil changed, cleaned out all the popcorn from teh back seat as well as all the other junk. Got all the clothes out of my car, and put in what I’m calling my Summer Fun Pack. Basically that means, I’ve put my rollerblades and my bowling ball as well as a pair of socks and my swimsuit in a case in my car. I haven’t put the cooler in yet, and probably won’t until people actually start living out of my car again. The sunroof also came out for the first time this year.

The rest of the night was spent with Amber and her family that’s in town. They are a fun group to be with. We played Trivial Pursuit DVD style and had some fun dinner times.

Well, tomorrow will be yet another long and exciting day. BTW: I now have IE 5.1, 5.5, 6.0 all on my one computer. Thanks to a link I would post but don’t seem to have at the moment. Maybe I’ll post it tomorrow. Very cool. The coolest part is, it’s standalone, such that, I can put them on my memory stick and not even need to install any of the older versions when I go to a machine (as long as they have 6). Very cool huh? Alex, I think this is a reason to upgrade.

So much work, ok, well I’m off to bed. Night all, and wish Sim luck!
