A Beta post and Beta Launch

So this is an unofficial launch of the new Rinsefirst.com powered by Oxwaf. I say unofficial because I want post 1000 to be the official launch. So what does this new site have to offer? Good question…

The archives have a new sorting mechanism to allow you to quickly get to previous months or years without having to click next or previous like you used to. The addresses now all look like standard html pages, this is a bonus for you spiders out there. Speaking of spiders, one of the things I hope to have in place by the soon official launch is the oxwaf search engine. Blaine has the code all done, so I don’t see why it would be a problem getting it working with Rinsefirst.

There is also now a comment system (yes, just like everyone else). I’ve gone the user account approach to help limit anything bad from getting posted, as well as to provide me with a way to allow some other features later down the road. Of course, there might still be a few bugs in it, so please, try to break it, and if you do… Let me know. Oh, and for kicks and giggles, you can go back and post comments on any of the older posts as well.

Also new is the design. This is the first time Rinsefirst has been in a liquid design. This means that even if you resize your browser window, you should be ok size wise as long as you stay above 800×600. I’m not entirely sure I’m done with the design, so look forward to perhaps a few more changes with it as well.

hmmm… Is there anything I’m forgetting? Not really. If you felt you were left off of the regulars, or that you want to be put on the regulars, at the moment there are two requirements (don’t feel bad Nikki, I’ll find some way to solve this problem at some point). 1) You must be hosted by JR Computer Associates Inc. and 2) I must have realized it. So if your not listed, email me and we’ll see what we can do.

I don’t have much else to mention other than while your checking out the new look here, check out the new look over at jrcorps.com. Things are starting to shape up around here now that we have OXWAF.

Oh thanks honey, way to start off the comments with a comment that has nothing to do with the post… Speaking of. Let's hear some comments!

I would post something of matter if I really had any knowledge of what you are speaking of… Basically, it is pretty! And I think under the last 10 posts, the second line of a title should be indented. Otherwise it is lookin great!

I really like this new design. It looks so clean and fresh, and that banner image reminds me of the sky after a rain or storm, and that makes me feel calm and happy inside. Very well done. This is quite an exciting show of this oxwaf I keep hearing about.

On another note: does HTML formatting work in the comments?

I think its funny that you directly made a comment to me about being on the regulars.. especially since I was like "Hey, I'm not on the regulars" before I read the post. I feel better now. Carry on. 🙂 Nice site by the way. Simple and well done. Where's the picture from, backyard?

Nope, html has been stripped from the comments for good reason. As was demo'd on dan's, richard's, alex's, and john's site, if you allow tags, you allow javascript. If you allow javascript, you allow redirection code. Therefore, no html in one of these posts.

However, at the moment, it will put your line breaks in for you as need. If you break twice, it's a p tag, if you break once, it's a br tag. I'm considering replacing the carrots with their html entity so that people can see the code if you so wish to type it (in case people use this to share code). I'm also tempted to put automatic linking, such that if you type in a url, it will link it for you.

Last but not least, I'm considering allowing uploading of images of a certain size. The ISMS used to have this which is why I'm considering it.

    Blah

    <a href="http://www.microsoft.com” target=”_blank”>www.microsoft.com
    and of course

    some <code>code</code>
