MSA 2.5
August 31st, 2003
Hopefully this will be my last post with the title MSA 2 for the next year. I am in the process of finishing up cleaning so that I don’t get yelled at when the students come in the building on Tuesday. Speaking of Tuesday, I better be here in the morning because teachers and students are sure to have problems, not to mention, I do still have a good number of things for Dan and I to do. So with that in mind, we forget everything we have done the last few days, deem them as done, and continue one with our lives as we know them.
Amber is listening to every word I say. That’s kind of fun. I type and she hear’s it. She would like to say, “No”. That’s to bad… Hopefully she will bring herself to post in the next 72 hours. The way I see it, she should start updating a lot because soon she will have all this spare time at campus and nothing better to do than write insanely long posts.
Nikki called and said she moved in ok. That’s good to hear.
I’m going to go now. Bye.
MSA and So Longs
August 31st, 2003
So things have changed so much in the last 48 hours it isn’t funny.
Richard has moved out and into the U of M dorms. Not and overly big deal considering he will still be within 20 minutes, and I’ll still probably see him more than I do now. But it means that I won’t just drop in like I do from time to time at his house.. Mainly because he won’t be there. Just different I guess.
Nikki left this morning for St. Cloud. That’ll be a big change for me. We spent last night at Ottawa’s (sp?) eating dinner. The whole time memories kept flashing through my head. It sucks knowing that it will be harder to create more. I guess to show you what ones were playing through my head the most, I’ll give ya links to the best of my ability.
The snowball fight day one. What a weird way to start a friendship.
This Day
This Day
This Day
This Day
I figure that’s enough sappy memories for now.
Maria has also left for collage. Yet another devastation to everyones favorite monday night rountine better known as “7th Heaven/Everwood Night”. I’ll keep on watching with ya.
Alex has moved out to St. Thomas. Not to much of a change here either. Especially considering that 99.9% of our friendship is based in the online world. Kinda cool how that works out isn’t it?
Right now the only 4 things that seem constant in my life are the following: Amber, John, The amount of work I have at MSA, and the love from my family. I suppose I should add God to that list as well. He’s more constant that even those 4.
Well all, Here’s my message to you. All of you, no matter where you are this year. Whether near or far. Whether in school or not. Whether you like me or hate me. Be well, and be successful.
Some of the computers here are finishing up, so I’m going to go finish them up as well. Hey, anyone know why my girl hasn’t posted in a few days :-)?
Waking up to light
August 30th, 2003
Yesterday’s orientation went well. Met a new friend named Mike. Very similiar to me and he help introduce me to a few services that might be of use to me in the near future. It was nice to be able to leave at noon because I was a PSEO student. So instead of the normal 48 orientation by most freshman, and instead of the normal 8 hour orientation for transfer students, I got the 4 hour orientation for PSEO students who didn’t even really need the first 4 hours. Nice huh?
When I got home, exhausten hit me. I didn’t want to sleep. I wanted to get all my old data off the hard drive that I accidently corrupted. So I did that and was able to recover all 30 gigs of mp3s and the data that was with them. I hope to format the drive later today so I can put it back to use.
I’m tired though. I took a nap last night and then went over to Ambers and played some scrabble and watched Two Towers.
I came home and slept.
I woke up this morning, I was still tired.
So here I am. Tired. Needing to go into MSA to work, and not having the energy to move. Amber’s busy most of the day. Nikki is on her last day here. Church is tomorrow morning. Nathan is probably working. I am just about ready to sleep again, but not going to get there.
Nebraska football starts today. Any bets?
I wanna go to the casino with Sim.
I wanna Sleep
I wanna send out some invoices
I wanna finish MSA
I wanna have energy
I wanna stop writing now
MSA 2.4
August 28th, 2003
So day 4 is completed at MSA. To make the long story short, Adam B., Kevin K., Colleen S., and Joe B. did a great job helping me today. I’m going to find a way of plugging all their diary’s here shortly, but I’m a little busy right now and away from home… *I wanna be a little more creative than say… just linking to them in 1 post.*
So… What’d we get done…. A new laptop image is made and ready to be put on the laptops. The compaq image is going slow but is about halfway done *erg is what I say to that*. 15 computers have been marked ‘ready to sell’. There are 4 that have been scrapped for parts and 1 for spare usage. I should clean the server room to make sure there is nothing else we want to sell. I also wanna talk to minsley about how we plan on selling them…
Tomorrow, we won’t be working. To make the long story short, I have orientation and can’t be there. Minsley could fill in for me, but I feel we are far enough ahead of schedule that I can finish the work by myself probably on Saturday and Sunday. Worst case, I call them in on Monday and Dan and I finish it all up. I don’t see that happening though at this point.
Tonight may very well be the last movie night of the summer. I will be placing some calls here shortly to make sure all that should be invited are invited. I don’t think we will go overly late because I think Nate has school in the morning, not to mention me having orientation as well.
In other news: JR Corps is moving its way up in the world, but I will post more about that later.
Sim, I will contact you as soon as I can, but this week is insane.
Ok, I’m off to water my plants briefly.
MSA 2.3
August 28th, 2003
Well, I missed my update again yesterday. That’s ok. I was working my butt off. After working here at MSA for 12 hours, 10 of which I clocked because I claimed I had 2 hours worth of breaks, I was pretty well beat. So let’s run through what got done.
From my perspective, We imaged all 30 new computers using hard drives, a rather fast and cool way of doing it if you ask me. Spare hard drives from the compaqs may prove to be quite useful.
That was the major tast done. All the teachers have at least 1 of their computers configured. Also a very good thing. I will have to be here Tuesday morning to make sure they run fine the first day of school. I’m sure that there will be other problems as well, who knows.
Many other things were completed as well, but I’m not going to get into them right now. Dan, you’ll be happy to hear the combination of the image I made and the modifications you have made to the server have caused login speeds to drop drastically. Start menus are now local to the machine and locked. That kinda thing. Very clean images. Very easy setup. Short of the fact we’re using hard drives to restore *which goes really fast by the way*.
Ok, well I gotta get back to work. The computer I am working on is done now. So long and hopefully another post tonight!
MSA 2.2
August 26th, 2003
Ok, so today was day 2 and this is where the first wave of nightmare work hit. So let’s run down the line.
I took Amber to school again at 7:00am again this morning. I love her being the first person I see in the morning. It’s great to look at her and see her smile. I can’t think of a much better way of starting my day.. Well, ok, so if I was picking her up at 10:00am it might be a little nicer… Or how about 11:00 :-).
I then darted over to MSA where I wanted to be there in time for the Teachers meeting. I began working on the image for the new computer as well as the ARCIMS server and a few other random things. Sometime during that the new computers arrived. Two of them came damaged so I spent like an hour dealing with FEDEX and Equus as to how to handle the insurance claim. Fun huh?
I called in Adam B. today. I should give him a link if it doesn’t do it automatically. He did a great job helping me til 4 in getting the packages unpacked and such. While he did that I went from teacher to teacher helping them get reaquainted with the system and getting their computers plugged back in. I failed to get to four teachers today… They are first on my list tomorrow.
After my work till 4 (that was an 8 hour day) I went to Applebee’s with Amber, Nikki, and Nate. That was the fun part of my day. Just sitting there chatting and making insults at one another. We must all be good friends cause no one really got mad :-). I should cut back though. I am getting out of hand.
After dinner, Amber and I went back to MSA. Amber worked on the room Adam was working on and got it all nice and pretty for the students tomorrow. While I went back to working on the Image. I snagged a permissions bug *of the worst kind* and that stopped me in my tracks for about 30 minutes. *Didn’t realize it was permissions at first*. I have another bug in my way here shortly involving teachers and a change Dan made to the server *Dan if your wondering, guess what happens if you change a group name from Teachers to Staff :-)*.
I took Amber to Target about 9:15 (That was another 2 hours for those of you who are counting) and then home. She was buying something for her sister’s friend. She is so kind and caring of her family. That’s why I love her. After taking her home I went back to MSA to get my cell phone (I accidently left it there).
Ok, so do I ever walk into the building and not do work? No… I ended up sitting down to the computer and hashing out another hack for Mavis. For those MSA students who care: Mavis will now be running off the hard drive with user data on the network. MEANING: MAVIS WONT CRASH… MEANING: MAVIS WILL RUN FASTER… MEANING: NO HIDIOUS NETWORK LOAD TIME… MEANING: NO EXTRA LINE TO THE SCRIPT FILES. Cool huh?
So that put me at about 11ish, for those who are counting thats another 1 for a total of 11. I only clocked 10 because that last hour was spur of the moment and I didn’t really care at that point. Hopefully tomorrow won’t be at long, but I can already see it being that long. I didn’t get to calling in Bartz, Colleen, or Adam… Let alone trying to contact Dan. Erg is what I have to say to that.
Tomorrows Agenda:
Take Amber to School/Pickup/Sleep
FINISH 4 TEACHERS ASAP
FINISH NN-IMAGE ASAP
Start and Finish Laptop Image
Call in helpers to start imaging NN’s and Old Compaqs
Start and Finish Compaq Image???
Debug ImageServer on ArcIMS???
clean server room???
Image laptops???
Much of that stuff will need to be done in the afternoon mainly because Orientation is in the morning. John, I’ll call you first thing in the morning, but dude.. Bookwise… I’m looking screwed.
Out for sleep
