Infix Parsers
March 31st, 2004
This homework I spoke of in a previous post is yet another parser for a class. We are done with the major part of the program, it now just needs a few minor touchups so we get an awesome A.
So what all does it do?
Handles parsing prefix expressions with the following data:
+, -, /, *, (), and let which is a cheap way of saying x=0.
It also handles infix notation for
+, - ,/ , *
We’re on our way. More later.

System Support Nightmare
March 29th, 2004
So my day from hell begins.
MSA launches on its new teacher server this morning. After putting a good number of hours in on the network over the last week, it is about 99% ready to go. So far I managed to get 3 phone calls this morning, none of which were very difficult questions, just people getting adjusted to the new system. However, there’s bound to be something, no matter how well you test it.
Take work for example. The project we have been working on for the last week launched basically friday. Everyone from a user standpoint is going smooth, but from our aspect, we have some issues. A few students are getting through the system where they shouldn’t be, and a few are labled wrong. Again, nothing we can’t handle.
Other than that, I’m just sitting here during class again. Fun stuff right? I’m glad I took linear algebra before I took this class, if it wasn’t for that, I’d be screwed.
I’m again at fixing minor things on the site to get it more tight than ever. For the third time I have replaced the script that allows me to say Amber and her name get’s linked. I fixed a validation problem with my navigation. Restructured my document so that the outline made better sense. And some other minor CSS changes. Posting them now.
Later all.
Decidability
March 29th, 2004
I can’t decide if I actually want to finish this lowsy homework. I can feel it already, this week is going to suck until Wednesday. I have so much work to get done, and even when Wednesday rolls around, I’m sure more will have piled up, but that’s me complaining again.
I want to have lots to say like Alex does today, but instead, I’m going to sleep so I get to work on time. Later all.
Not to much to update on
March 28th, 2004
Well, I don’t have much to update on at this point. Just don’t have anything really to say. Spent most of the day at MSA working, will probably do the same tomorrow. I have homework to get done at some point, and a few sites I want to design (one for a contest). I have a voicemail to return. I have a girl to love. I have a pad to pick up.
So much, so little time.
Spent the night with Amber’s family. We had a great time playing DDR and poker all night long. I think I even came out ahead (even though Amber kept trying to lose all of my money for me :-)). It’s good to have more family. I then took her home, and ended up coming here to post this short post.
So that’s the short post. Go read some other cool site so you can be ready for tomorrow. Hope things are going well for Rich. oh, and Nikki, if you read this, I’m not wearing my shirt tomorrow… I don’t have time to swash the stink out of it.
Learning is a Wow
March 27th, 2004
Note: this first part of my post is actually coming from a post I started earlier today, but failed to finish. I updated it to be part of the times.
Wow. For the first time in a long time, I am insanely enjoying learning. I just can’t seem to get enough. The more I learn, the more I want to use, the more I want to learn. I don’t think I’ve felt this excited about code since 8th grade. Back then, everyday was about learning.
I remember saying things like "Hey, check out these frames" and "Wow, it’s amazing what javascript can do. Do you think we could make a graphical game out of it?". Of course Sim and I did, and a very good one as well (Mario Battle and The Traveler). I remember Alex wondering if Anglefire had php. Back then, php was just something cool to us, not something we knew the power of.
But now, we know the real power of PHP, but honestly, I’ve used it to much at this point. I understand the logic of it, I understand it’s structure. There isn’t anything I feel I couldn’t write in PHP. It’s not as new and exciting for me. What is new and exciting all of a sudden is CSS, XHTML, XML, design, MYSQL, MSSQL, and hosting.
Thanks to Mezzoblue and some constant pushes from Alex, I feel I’m starting to take in all my design notes. Let’s just look around. JJ’s Domain was cool. It made great leaps and bounds with what php could do for me in my graphs, and various sections. The design was cross browser, but in tables. Then the site moved to CSS and XHTML, but stayed with a fairly simple design. Then the site became RinseFirst and got a whole new, some would say best yet, design. And now, as of like 20 minutes ago, it looks EXACTLY the same in IE 6, IE 5.5, and Moz. I can only assume that means it looks the same in about half a dozen other browsers as well.
This is all thanks to all the millions of articles I’ve read from Mezzoblue in the last two or three days. I made use of my first Tantek implementation. I made use of a dozen other things. The floats work. The strategy works. Just two more things I plan to put into the design to make it as compatible as I believe it ever will be, or maybe not…
But let’s get off the topic of design for a moment.
Tomorrow I’ll be at MSA trying to finish off a network, nothing new and exciting for me there, but Colleen will probably find it so. We have a good amount of work tomorrow, so we’ll probably get started early.
I spent the afternoon getting my car springized. It was such a nice day. I got my oil changed, cleaned out all the popcorn from teh back seat as well as all the other junk. Got all the clothes out of my car, and put in what I’m calling my Summer Fun Pack. Basically that means, I’ve put my rollerblades and my bowling ball as well as a pair of socks and my swimsuit in a case in my car. I haven’t put the cooler in yet, and probably won’t until people actually start living out of my car again. The sunroof also came out for the first time this year.
The rest of the night was spent with Amber and her family that’s in town. They are a fun group to be with. We played Trivial Pursuit DVD style and had some fun dinner times.
Well, tomorrow will be yet another long and exciting day. BTW: I now have IE 5.1, 5.5, 6.0 all on my one computer. Thanks to a link I would post but don’t seem to have at the moment. Maybe I’ll post it tomorrow. Very cool. The coolest part is, it’s standalone, such that, I can put them on my memory stick and not even need to install any of the older versions when I go to a machine (as long as they have 6). Very cool huh? Alex, I think this is a reason to upgrade.
So much work, ok, well I’m off to bed. Night all, and wish Sim luck!
