How to become a CA

July 29th, 2004

I need to get to sleep so the length of this post is determined by how quickly I can write before I want to crawl into bed. Let’s start with yesterday.

I’m still wearing my new outfits daily. I think I might have to get like 3 more, just for good measure. It’s cool looking good everyday (like sim) as opposed to just looking like some 9th grader. I like collars it would seem.

Last night was spent at church for the first hour or so. I got there to find no one there, so I started wiring the sound system. Amber shortly arrived there after and we worked at cleaning the room. It looks much nicer than when we we got there, which is good. The sound system is wired pretty cool-ly as well. The TV is even plugged into it, how nifty is that. Hopefully the wire coming from the ceiling isn’t a problem. Nikki arrived sometime in all that mess, and we had our own wednesday night, without a Thomas to be found.

We headed up to Damon’s played some trivia. Good food, few good laughs, good trivia.

Came back here and watch some movie about becoming a airline pilot, or something like that. The more important thing was that we were all hanging out together.

Then we get to today. Since the biggest thing in my life seems to be business startup, let me give you the run down as to where we are at:

Merchant account has been completed and setup. Working on integrating it with the future jrcorps.com website now. Hopefully we can do that safely and securely.
Installed Mod_Ssl to help with that securely part. If you want to see the secure form of a page, goto https://www.jrcorps.com/. Wow huh?
Got the business check card, the number is… (just kidding).
Faxed in an IRS Form. Yay.So this weekend we hope to finish the website at least with the basic accounting stuff I want, as well as the document storage system (hopefully). That probably means coding most if not all of saturday (seeing as tomorrow night I’m hanging out with a German… hear that Maria, I’m hanging out with a boy that is from GERMANY.)

That said.. I don’t know exactly what is going on tomorrow night, but I’ll be sure to call you all. Keep busy!

BTW: some people you just don’t want to do business with.

Cant Sleep CVS

July 27th, 2004

My phone lines as of late have not been up to par. Imparticularly, my home phone line. Take tonight for an example: it was and still is dead, but, if you plug any phones it, it will constantly ring. No one is on the other end, other than this loud annoying hum. In what world, was it ok for whoever was working on the lines, to not finish, or if they were finished, why is our line busted? These answers surely won’t get answered till tomorrow, but this is like the 5th time in the last 3 weeks… I’m getting upset.

Had a meeting with Sim tonight at Sgt. Peppers. Went well, got a lot of talking done, which was good. We are all in the same boat now. I have to write up those contracts still, but that shouldn’t be an issue.

I got the CVS web thing working. It’s pretty cool, but it’s also password protected. Therefore, not available without a little knowledge of where it is and where it’s at.

I can’t sleep. I think it has something to do with not being able to talk to Amber for as long as I would have liked. The dumb phone line and all and the fact I don’t want to run up my minutes. I do love my girl though, that’s for sure.

I don’t quite know what the plan for tomorrow is. I need to touch base with the bank. I need to make sure a fax goes out. I would like to spend some time with the sweety. I don’t think I need to eat out. I do think I need to save some money, at least for a little while.

We talked to a client today at lunch. That was pretty cool. He’s a pretty cool guy. For some reason, both his name and personality sound very familiar. I’m wondering if I haven’t worked with him before, perhaps in another enviroment, like church.

I had a dentist appointment tonight as well. That was fine. No cavities. They want me to get my wisdom teeth out, but that seems rather pointless to me. I doubt the odds of my infection abilities. I don’t have any discomfort. What harm could 4 extra teeth bring me? Anyway, they are coming in straight, just like my dads (which he still has).

Ultima. There I said it.

I think as long as I eat lunch, I will not lose weight.

Speaking of how I look. Amber and Nikki took me shopping for clothes yesterday. They did a pretty fine job like they always do, so I have some nice new outfits to wear. So if you see me sporting kahkis and some kind of t-shirt that looks nice, that would be the new look. Less blue than normal, but hopefully cooler.

I think that’s it.

I’m going to bed now.

Dan MOVE!

Bus(y)iness as usual

July 24th, 2004

Starting a company when you have a job, girlfriend, friends, and an all around life, might be a mistake. Needless to say though it does create an always busy life, and an always busy life just means you never get anything done… Hence, the lack of updates.

So let’s go through what has happened in the last week reguarding company startup. We filed and recieved our EIN from the IRS. That then allowed us to take about a dozen other steps. Those steps included meeting with a lawyer to make sure we had done everything right up until then. (Turned out we had a few things wrong, some of which are still being discussed among us so I won’t mention them here). We then filed for our MN tax id number as well as a few other documents such as the IRS 2553 (which I should mail out today.)

Yesterday I met with the bank, and we secured our first corporate checking account. The account will hopefully start paying all the bills as well as bringing in all the money starting soon. Right now I’m waiting on the check card and the merchant account before I do anything with it. Anyway, the account isn’t showing up in my online accounts, so perhaps it’s not a good idea to start using it yet.

With a new account comes a need for new accounting. I think today, on top of everything else I hope to get done, I will work on my finicial accounting system. I have a plan for it, better than quickbooks, better than excel, but probably not as full featured as either. We’ll see how much time I have to code today.

I should bring the scanner down here as well. I have many things I would love to keep scanned for record purposes. Not to mention business cards, I have to find a way to keep track of them, and aquire them, at some point.

Also have to write up Blaine, Jon, and Richard’s contract.

Let’s make a list of what should get done today, and then see how much we can actually accomplish:

Moving of HRAH-PA to new server
Moving of St. Bernards to new server
Moving NECF to new server
Moving GAHF to new server
Moving Emperors ball to new server
Move any remaining stuff I’m not thinking about
Type contracts for Blaine, Jon, Rich
Code JR Corps.com
Scan paper work.
Research terminal services.
Send emails
Blaine’s CVS thingy
Fix Spam AssassinPlenty to do, so little time.

Well I best get started. Fair winds all.

Let’s start by saying there are times that I am glad that wireless technology has not managed to make it out to certain events. For the last 5 days I have been out of reach of the world wide web, and without it, I find so much more enjoyment from the things around me. Simple things, like the game of 500, a game of volleyball, or even better, a game of Tetris.

The trip down to Sonshine was safe. We got the tent up which was quite an experience for me and Amber on our own. Once we got it up, we went and visited Nikki and the church group. We all hung out for awhile and then basically went back and played cards and started to watch a movie before we fell asleep.

The next day is when the party started. John, Amber, and I went around and attended all sorts of shows. On my list for that day was Rueban, who was in good form. The day ended with 3rd Day, also in good form. For the most part, all we did most of the day was listen to music. I did play a little Tetris, but I found myself having a hard time working up to anything of value. I would get to level 30 and then die by line 400. It was very upsetting when I was hoping to get a new highscore.

For those of you who don’t know what Sonshine is, it’s a christian music festival. That should have been fairly easy to pick up by the fact that we went and listened to music, but either way I thought I would point it out.

We started watching another movie that night in our tent and again, managed to fall asleep half way through. All the walking, talking, eating, and listening of music really has a way to make you tired. Not to mention the nice warm sun baking you to a crisp.

The next day is when all the action started. John got to see a good number of the bands he wanted to like kutless. I also got to see groups like KJ-52 and my first ever viewing of Audio A(ndrenline). Everything was spectacular. It should be noted though, that sometime that day I had my first 1000 line game of gameboy tetris in about a month. That was good, I was getting back on my game.

But it didn’t stop there.

Later that night during some other bands that were playing, I started a Tetris game. It went pretty well. Got to level 30 without a problem. Got to 500 lines without a problem, but by then, the concerts were more worth my time. Sometime around 1500 lines my gameboy battery light came on, and because I was doing well, I thought I would save it and pause and come back later after I gave it a charge. I dropped it off at my car and we went to see the closing act for that night (Audio A).

Afterwards, we came back to the tent and John and I (Amber couldn’t seem to stay awake) stayed up and watched the second half of the movie we started the night before. During that time, I kept playing gameboy. I was so tired from everything that day that I failed to notice what was going on on the right side of my screen. When I finally thought I should stop for the night, my gameboy screen looked like this:

Yes, that picture was taken the next morning when I started back up. Needless to say, that was at least 300 lines above my old highscore, and the numerical score was 2 million higher. That’s right, Justin had a new highscore on his gameboy… but wait… The game didn’t stop there. Now for a long time, Justin has been on a mission to reach the 10 million mark. So he though, well, I’m 8/10th’s of the way there, if I play safe, and don’t play stupid, I can make it.

So Saturday morning roles around, we do some walking around, and finally I sit down. I turn the gameboy on and start going at it. John and Amber go off and look at some booths, and about 3 minutes after they got back my gameboy screen looked like this:

Yes, that is a game above 3000 lines. Yes, that is a game with a score of 9,994,822. Again, the game is still paused. So I’m like amazed at this point. Not only am I nearing my goal of 10 million, but I have never seen what happens at that point. The gameboy screen doesn’t have anymore room for numbers, so I’m not really sure there was anything that could happen. So of course, I played basically a few more lines of tetris, and the faintful moment came where we got this:

Yes, again, that’s a few screen later because I kept playing. But that makes the point clear, the score locks in at 9,999,999. That actually manage to piss me off a little. No more can Justin keep track of his progress using the score. The game doesn’t keep track of maximum lines. So there is no way for me to know anymore if I have gotten any better. That’s ok though, the fact of the matter is, I broke tetris.

The scarier part is though, the game still wasn’t done. In fact, it wasn’t done till much later that day (or was it the next day? I can’t remember). In fact I managed to get gameover at this point:

Yes, that reads 4509 lines, yes that’s maximum level and score. The question now has become where is maximum lines :-). So this is a minor note to mention that I have not retired (like John did with DDR) from Tetris. I have however decided that gameboy tetris is no longer the game for me to play on when it comes to testing my abilities, for it’s record keeping abilities have gone out the window. Therefore I will have to stick to the New Tetris for N64 so that I can keep track of lines. That will be my new measure of progress for the time being.

So to sum up: Tetris has been seen, conquered, and I’m ready to take on any challenger (for money of course) who thinks they can beat me?in a best 2 out of 3 game match without cheating. Note: I’m only talking like 20 bucks here.

That said….

The real point of sonshine was family.

God is good
ALL THE TIME!
All the time
GOD IS GOOD!

18,000 people praising the lord for 3 days. Many of which don’t shower. Many of whom haven’t slept. And yet, they are still able to ALL have their hands in the air closing night. 36,000 hands in the air, all towards the heavens, praising our God. Truly amazing. If you don’t know God personally, I would hope I could find some way to help you get there. If that means paying for your ticket to Sonshine next year, so be it :-).

From there I’m going to conclude with a photo of my family. I took many more pictures than this, and maybe one day when I finish my photo album, I will get them online. Until that day, here is my family (yes, you are all my family, this is just my sonshine family):

John, Nikki, me and Amber

A quick update

July 13th, 2004

Lawyer called me back, now I have to call her back about setting up a meeting date. EIN paperwork is filed that’s to Sim. I have 1 more account to move from Altera and then I’m done with that server host forever. Then I have something like 3 accounts to move from Global. I’m getting there… It’s now only a matter of time.

I love Amber.

Sonshine is less than 38 hours away.

Nikki, glad to help.

Postfix sux.

Tetris Rocks.

Home run derby was cool but poor sosa… Oh I found my CWS baseball card of Sosa, that was cool.

Have to go now. Bye.

Missed Church

July 11th, 2004

I think Amber reminded me so many times that I didn’t have to go to church that at some point I took it as don’t go to church. Then again that’s just me trying to pass the blaime for my stupidity.

To make the long story short, my alarm clock is set an hour ahead. When I first woke up, I must have been still tired because I looked at them and thought it was 11:20. Note, I shouldn’t say first woke up because I woke up many a time due to lightning and thunder. Well, because it said 11:20, I thought I had missed church. So I crashed my head on the pillow. Needless to say, I woke up about 20 minutes later and realized I had 5 minutes basically to get ready for church. I decided it wasn’t worth rushing, and so here I am explaining myself.

Ben sent me some IM’s in response to my post last night about my tetris scores. He reminded me that Tetris DX keeps track of points not lines and that there is no solid record of how many points you have in tetris. Such that, I will list my highscores here:

My Top 3 on my Tetris DX game are:
1. 6832303
2. 6530240
3. 4762300

And since I have my gameboy on, these are my *current* percentages:
Tetris: 19.2%
Triple: 5.6%
Double: 18.5%
Single: 56.6%

That help clarify things?

We got our first bill from Implex. It was 174.00. Yay, we didn’t exceed our bandwidth. I wonder if we will this month…. Probably not.

Amber’s family reunion is tonight. I’m debating whether to work or go meet family. The right thing to do would be to support her and go meet family. I might even get some games of cards in. The wrong thing to do would be to make her mad…

Hey…. I get 3 days off this week! yay! Sonshine here I come.

Ok, I think that’s everything, perhaps I’ll get an oil change this afternoon.
