The list dwindles

August 23rd, 2004

I want to talk about something other than work for once, but I seem to have a problem. My life is work. I need to spend more time doing the for fun stuff. More time learning. Less time stressing out over projects. Less time stressing out in general. Derek had it right in an email today, I need to take the time to pray, and take the time to read, the book that is.

I was going to spend some time stressing how important it is to back things up. You must always back them up. This is why I need to place an order for a hard drive and soon. Something that will hold most, if not all of the data on one of my machines. I have already ordered this drive once, but had to send it back for various reasons. Just need to be sure to order the right drive this time I guess.

I’m looking at getting in on the housing market. I actually would like to buy a house this fall and move in sometime around christmas. I don’t think it will happen, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind doing it. The problem is finding the right kind of roommates. See, I’m not one to drink, party, or really have any fun at all. Ok, so that’s not true, but I’m still not one to drink. That said, it eliminates like half the population because I don’t want people having drinking parties in my house. There is to much liability associated with that. I also need sound renters.

This leads me to wanting to go in with the people I’m closest to. Amber, Nikki, and perhaps 1 or 2 other people to help bring the rent down. My favorite additional pick would be John, but he doesn’t want to move out. So quite honestly, I’m at a stand-still on whether or not I want to move forward with this. Not to mention, Amber wants to move in and that brings up parents and their feelings. Perhaps there is a point where you have to start asking yourself when and how you want to marry someone.

All of that aside, I still want to do it.

So on that note, I’m going to go spend some time house shopping before going over to Amber’s to babysit. Life is tough, get a helmet.

Worn out

August 21st, 2004

Life is busy busy busy busy.

I’ve spent the last 4 days at MSA doing various things. The entire computer lab has been reformatted and imaged. Thielman’s lab has been formatted and imaged. All that’s left is primary laptop lab, and I’ll make an image for that either tomorrow night or on Tuesday.

ArcIMS is coming along nicely thanks to the bartz team. Adam has been helping me a lot around here as well. It’s been great so far. Lots of stuff done. We did find a dead battery and I had to call dell about it. That’s about the sum of it.

The rest of the time has been spent working on whatever else. I’m dead tired… So I’m going to stop posting and find something else to do. Yay.

I won’t say you should rinse first this time.

Migration Issues

August 18th, 2004

So the list for today looked like this:

1) Move GAHF.ORG
2) Move NECF.ORG
3) Transfer Equity
4) Setup Tovarim account(s)
5) Design Invoice table
6) Call Jim
7) Check out the rest of the sites.

The list for Tomorrow Looks like this:

1) Move GAHF.ORG
2) Move NECF.ORG
3) Transfer Equity
4) Rename Tovarim account(s)
5) Design Invoice table
6) Minsley Setup

So I did manage to do 2 things on my list today, got set-back in one, and am falling behind yet again. The combination of being able to work from MSA tomorrow should help with a lot of that though. If I can get those 6 things done tomorrow, I’ll be on my way for where I want to be on thursday. For those of you who are saying, why didn’t you get more done, it’s because of a snag I hit on item number 7 from today’s list.

I was playing with PHPMyAdmin and discovered I could no longer browser or insert. Googling turned up almost nothing. A few hints, that sort of thing. Looking at the PHPMyAdmin code was almost as usless although it did help to point out that yes it was coming from mysql. Apache said it was a seg fault… And who knows what mysql itself was saying. Needless to say, it turned out to be a bad client library. Thanks to Jon, we got that fixed.

Spent a majority of the night with Amber eating way to much food and way to much food. Oh, and I played cards. I even learned how to make Radabaugh dip.. that must mean I’m part of the family :-). Good thing I love her :-).

Someday, we will be telling our children to Rinse First. (wonder’s if Sim is frustrated yet).

3 out of 4 ain’t bad

August 17th, 2004

So, based on what I wrote earlier today about what I got done: I’m 3/4. I did manage to finish the DNS for tovarim.org. I did see Amber right on time. We did upgrade to php 5.0.1. Thank you Blaine for fixing my RSS feed while I was gone. Hopefully the art attack will be back up shortly. The only thing I didn’t finish was moving GAHF.ORG. We’ll see what I can make up tomorrow.

That put’s tomorrows checklist like this:

1) Move GAHF.ORG
2) Move NECF.ORG
3) Transfer Equity
4) Setup Tovarim account(s)
5) Design Invoice table
6) Call Jim
7) Check out the rest of the sites.

In other news, Amber is home and it’s good to have her back. I did in deed miss her and it was fun to just sit on the couch and hold each other for the night. Her mom kindly bought us malts and we sat there watching Free Willy 2 and the kids. I do love, very much.

Well in case you haven’t taken a bath yet today, go Rinse First.

It seems the DNS monster has creeped back into our lives, this time onto Tumbledry. I can resolve tumbledry.org from here, but not www.tumbledry.org which is both weird, and upsetting. Isolating the problem seems difficult, but it most likely seems to be a problem of timings. I got a response about a week ago as to how to repair that problem, and I’ll have to look into it to make sure all the domains are then set properly.

Amber comes home tonight. I plan to be there the moment she get’s home at 7:30. I’ll probably head over there soon. Pending her arrival home and my departure from her house, plans are in effect to upgrade to php 5 tonight. I’m not quite sure what all that means for the general public, but, it’s good to announce it anyway here.

For those of you who are worried about Nikki, don’t be. She has spoken, she is fine.

The countdown of work to do is again rising, but have no fear… billy the kid is here:

Goals for Tonight:
1) See Amber
2) GAHF.ORG move
3) DNS setup for tov…org
4) PHP 5 Upgrade.

That doesn’t sound so bad :-).

To copy Shattered Cube’s post-style ending, just remember to always rinse first!

Heading to Bed

August 15th, 2004

I was a lot more productive today than I was yesterday. Got more done on the Billing system for JR as well as headed into MSA to do about 2 hours worth of work. All in all a nice day, I could have got more done, but still a good day.

Marcell left today… I should have made more time to spend with him, he was a cool kid. Hopefully he comes back again, either that or maybe Maria can see him while she is in Germany and say hi to him for all of us.

I missed Amber more today then I think I ever have. It hit me in church when neither her or Nikki weren’t there.. It’s amazing how I no longer like being independant. I used to love it, now it drives me to an insane point of bored’m that makes me only miss Amber more… Ahh how a woman can drive you mad even when they aren’t around :-). That’s love for ya.

Nikki is missing. Tried multiple forms of communication. We’ll try one more tomorrow. Here’s praying that she is ok.

Prayers go out to the familys in Flordia. I believe my cousin is ok, but I haven’t heard officially.

Sleep well world.
