So this is an unofficial launch of the new Rinsefirst.com powered by Oxwaf. I say unofficial because I want post 1000 to be the official launch. So what does this new site have to offer? Good question…

The archives have a new sorting mechanism to allow you to quickly get to previous months or years without having to click next or previous like you used to. The addresses now all look like standard html pages, this is a bonus for you spiders out there. Speaking of spiders, one of the things I hope to have in place by the soon official launch is the oxwaf search engine. Blaine has the code all done, so I don’t see why it would be a problem getting it working with Rinsefirst.

There is also now a comment system (yes, just like everyone else). I’ve gone the user account approach to help limit anything bad from getting posted, as well as to provide me with a way to allow some other features later down the road. Of course, there might still be a few bugs in it, so please, try to break it, and if you do… Let me know. Oh, and for kicks and giggles, you can go back and post comments on any of the older posts as well.

Also new is the design. This is the first time Rinsefirst has been in a liquid design. This means that even if you resize your browser window, you should be ok size wise as long as you stay above 800×600. I’m not entirely sure I’m done with the design, so look forward to perhaps a few more changes with it as well.

hmmm… Is there anything I’m forgetting? Not really. If you felt you were left off of the regulars, or that you want to be put on the regulars, at the moment there are two requirements (don’t feel bad Nikki, I’ll find some way to solve this problem at some point). 1) You must be hosted by JR Computer Associates Inc. and 2) I must have realized it. So if your not listed, email me and we’ll see what we can do.

I don’t have much else to mention other than while your checking out the new look here, check out the new look over at jrcorps.com. Things are starting to shape up around here now that we have OXWAF.

More Countdowns

May 17th, 2005

You’d think with school being completed for me (pending 2 grades) that I would stop counting down to things like the end of the school year and stuff like that. Instead, I find myself looking forward to even more things. Countdown to the final chapter of Star Wars (which I will be seeing opening night) - 24 hours. Countdown to SRA this weekend about 4 days. Countdown to my official 2 year with Amber Radabaugh, 4 days. It would seem I’m always looking forward, being wary of what I’ve left behind, but doing everything I can to make sure I achieve what I’m looking forward to (unless it involves asking for help).

The last few days have been quiet busy with the new push to get JR completely off the ground. Richard has come on for at least a month to help us get more clients. We’ve finished up almost everything we’ve needed to, and we are well on our way to having a new website for our company completed to help make all of our lives easier (the old one wasn’t that good, you can blaime me).

I’m also working heavily on moving this site into oxwaf. The design you see now will probably only last 4 more days at most. Some of you have seen where the new design is going. Some minor changes might be made, but for the most part, what you see is what you get.

I still have lots of things to do. So I might go.

TV

May 11th, 2005

I’ve started doing a little work tonight with the TV on in the corner of my screen. This was something I used to do all the time when playing Ultima Online. I’d go fishing, and watch TV, or I’d go chopping and watch TV. I’d work on my websites, and watch TV. I loved watching TV in teh corner of my screen.

I miss always watching shows like Friends, Frasier, Star Trek, Will and Grace, Raymond, X-Men, Boy Meets World. They were all part of my nightly routine. They are in fact mostly a waste of time designed to put my mind on other things, but still, humans need that. Something to pass the time til we are all called home.

I’m also playing a video game called Mario and Luigi’s Superstar Saga. I’m in love with it so far. It feels a lot like Super Mario RPG, but a little simpler. I’m still liking it alot. Very innovative.

Amber is taking her nursing class. This is a change for us. We are used to see each other at least every other day. When I would get busy and not have time for her because of things in my life, it would often result in some strife in our relationship. She is now the one that is busy, and to my surprise, it’s still hard, but we are doing fairly well. It’s good to know that we can handle being apart.

Well. Sleep.

Microsoft Source Code

May 11th, 2005

I find it interesting that Microsoft is now making the source code for Windows XP and all the other operating systems open to the public. To see what I’m talking about you can visit their site:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/sharedsource/licensing/enterprise.mspx

Of course you have to be some big wig to get a copy of certain things (like windows xp) and of course you can’t resell or redistribute it, but I can’t help but wonder if this means that we will soon be seeing flavors of windows somewhere soon down the road.

Another interesting turn of events regarding micrsoft: Last night during house they advertised Windows. I just stopped in my tracks. Why in the world is Microsoft running a Windows ad campaign? Are they in more trouble with Mac then they like to admit? Do they think that the majority of the public watching House doesn’t know what windows is (yeah right..). I just can’t comprehend where Microsoft is trying to take this campaign. Maybe they just wanted to say they are in support of cool crazy doctors.

In other news: I’m down to 1 final. I feel I’ve done fine on the previous 3, I guess I would like to finish out the last one the same way. I have 48 hours to figure out how to do that. In the mean time, I have plenty of little projects (not so little) to work on, as well as some clients to touch base with.

I guess that means I should get to them.

Watching what you eat

May 10th, 2005

I was in a fairly weird mood most of the day. I just didn’t care. I didn’t want to take my final. I didn’t want to work. I didn’t want to be in love with Amber. I didn’t want to do much of anything, other than sleep and play gameboy and watch it rain.

Not the best of moods to be in. Now most people would attribute this to something. Amber thought it was just my mind being lost with regards to being unsure about whats going to happen to me now that I’m down with school. School has in fact played such a large role in my life, how can I live without it? But somehow, I always like to think that my problems aren’t mental but physical.

My theory: Something was missing from my diet. I asked myself this afternoon, what has changed that might have caused these problems. It hits me square in the face. Last week I had 4 meat based means (3 cheeseburgers and a french dip). So far this week, I had chipotle (also mainly mean, but had some rice). I’ve also started drinking Code Red and Livewire again.

I personally don’t remember Livewire or Codered causing problems until I stopped drinking them (caffine headaches and the like), so I decided it must be the meat thing. Normally my diet consists of lots of pasta. I mean lots. Like enough to feed a small army every week. I slow down drastically when I’m not eating my pasta. I had a small boost of it on Sunday which explains why I was in a pretty good mood on Sunday (I was kind of down on saturday as well, despite SRA). Tonight again I had pasta, and my mood seems to have switched around almost in an hour.

Now I know food shouldn’t be the solution to these kinds of problems, but it seemed to work for me. Then again, it could have just been relaxing for 2 hours watching House and Law and Order (by the way, I love House).

2 of my 4 finals are done. I have 1 more tomorrow and 1 more friday. I just finished my cheat sheet for the math one tomorrow, so I’m sure I’ll do just fine. I’ll print it in the morning.

Night world.

Design Woes

May 9th, 2005

Some of you may have noticed my new design. It features my bedroom wall being used as links. Yes, that is my bedroom wall (with a few minor modifications. The Jpeg quality isn’t very high for bandwidth considerations, and the links aren’t as precise as they could be, but all in all it worked out pretty well. It’s also nice to have the archives back.

As far as my wall goes, it’s surprising how many people have entered my room in some form of shock. Basically, I never understood why we were not allowed to write on the walls. They are in fact, just that, walls. Our parents say we can’t, but really, why is that? Why should I conform. So I didn’t. It started with my 2nd bedroom (the pink one which is no longer part of my house) and my ceiling. I drew a good number of faces that year. Of course, that wall got torn down.

When the new room was formed, I started doing it again. I was on the phone with Julie if I remember correctly. I needed a place to write down the title of a book (which just so happened to be this book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0375704434/thesupermario-20)

I believe that is the first one that ended up on my wall. Again, followed by a bunch of faces and quotes. That leads to two back to back nights which may very well be documented somewhere in my blog already. Thos were the nights I think we filled up the walls the most. Then there was Ben, Mike, and Cory going for the largest piece of artwork which they still hold to this day. It’s strange how something as simple as your walls can hold so many memories, if only you let it.

Of course, walls can hold negative memories as well. There are some bad quotes on my wall that I normall don’t like to think about. No reason really, they were just written when my head was in the wrong place. Then there’s dents in the wall that come from things like kicking and head bunts. Of course, I don’t have any of those in this room, but I think one of my old ones did.

Of course dents in the wall can be funny (to some people). See Richards basement wall for refrence. There are both the infamous PK dent as well as the dents from my mother commenting on the dents of ping pong. What can you do I say.

I love Amber. She is working on Oxwaf Documentation right now it sounds like. That’s good. That needed doing.

I have another final tomorrow. AI I believe. Don’t really want to take this one either, but eh, I guess I have to. Life is what it is. I can’t wait to get my grades back though. I want to know that this chapter is done with. I want to figure out how I’m going to move into the next. I want a challenge that isn’t going to drive my mad for once. I want to be free.

I should read more.
